Developing…
Lakeland Currents has learned Aldi has chosen Lakeland for it’s next store location. The location for the new store will be located on Highway 64 between McDonald’s and Krystal’s Hamburgers.
When contacted, Vice Mayor Roman provided insight into the development saying, “This project goes back last year to my stint as liaison on the EDC (Economic Development Council) and IDB (Industrial Development Board). Dexter (Muller) and I have been working on this project for a long time. We’re excited Aldi sees the value in choosing Lakeland for it’s next location. We’re growing and they want to be part of our exciting city. We feel confident that Aldi will be in Lakeland very soon.”
Dexter Muller, Lakeland’s Economic Development Coordinator, confirmed Aldi will be coming to Lakeland. “We had a lot of twist and turns in the negotiations, especially since we competed with the Malco property on Highway 64, but this is a great deal and it will be great for Lakeland.”
Revenue projections for the project are estimated to be at least $250,000 in annual property and sales tax revenue.
Commissioner Wesley Wright added, “Talking to Dexter late last summer, we knew this was a smart move. The planned development is in keeping with what the residents desire, it has a nice buffer and will have low sound impact. This is a product residents can get behind. Even more exciting is the fact the full development could have 2 or 3 restaurants as outparcels. It continues the tone we have set here in Lakeland over the last four years and developers want to be a part of our future.”
The project will now move forward to the planning commission and MPC later this month.
