Residents from the Stonebridge neighborhoods of Lakeland came together last night (2.27.18) at the IH Clubhouse for an initial meeting with City officials.
The City of Lakeland is establishing a Stonebridge Area Advisory Council to help inform and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners on issues affecting the Stonebridge area.
The Council was announced at a Feb. 8 BOC (Board of Commissioners) meeting.
Mayor Wyatt Bunker started the evening session, noting that Stonebridge citizens have been coming to City meetings and posting on social media about their concerns. “Stonebridge feels neglected and that’s the last thing we want,” said Mayor Bunker. “You are a part of our City.”
Also addressing the group were Vice Mayor Josh Roman and Commissioners Wesley Wright and Clark Plunk. Jim Atkinson, city manager, was also at the meeting.
Attendees were asked to introduce themselves and all indicated their concerns about Stonebridge Golf Club possibly being sold and replaced with apartments.
City officials have said the zoning would have to be changed to allow apartments and the current Board does not favor the rezoning.
Other topics presented:
- Children cutting through resident’s yards from nearby apartments
- Trash in commercial areas
- Unkempt residential yards
- Speeding
- El Hill Road connecting to Canada Road, creating traffic issues
Mayor Bunker reminded those in attendance to secure their vehicles since car break-ins are the biggest crime issue.
