Giving has been part of the holiday season at both Lakeland schools this December with the PTA and PTO collecting donations for their Angel Tree Drives and the LMPS Student Council raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Lakeland Middle Preparatory School (LMPS) dismisses at 11:15 a.m. today with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal time for Lakeland Elementary School (LES). Classes resume Jan. 6th.
Lauren Lemmons, vice president of spirit and family and the Angel Tree Program at LES, said the PTA works with the guidance counselor and teachers to identify families who could use extra holiday cheer. “Before we break for the holidays, the PTA collected donations and shopped for these families to give them wrapped item needs like coats and wants like toys for Christmas morning. It is such a blessing to help out our LES families who need us!”
Mrs. Lemmons said 17 children were helped by the LES PTA this year. “More than $2,000 was collected to help these students have a blessed holiday season.”
At LMPS, students and parents collected donations for their Angel Tree Program. Alex Tutor, PTO president, said, “We are excited to get the students involved this year in the efforts to raise money for our Angel Tree program. Last year we were able to help over 20 families at LMPS and we are hoping to get to be even more generous this year!”
April McDaniel is the Angel Tree Coordinator. “The Program benefits families in the community to have a brighter holiday season,” said Mrs. Tutor.
“Lakeland Loves” is the LMPS Student Council’s fundraiser for St. Jude. The goal of the students was to raise $2,000 with online donations via students’ homeroom teacher pages.
