Youth basketball in Lakeland is always in big demand. But with several leagues around the Memphis metro area not playing this winter, the demand for Lakeland basketball is even greater.
According to Patrick O’Mara, Lakeland Parks and Recreation Director, most spots were filled quickly after enrollment initially opened. However, additional spots have been allocated but they are not expected to stay available for very long.
Mr. O’Mara told Lakeland Currents, “We have increased enrollment amounts in our most popular divisions to increase from 4 to 6 teams in the divisions.” Those divisions are the 12 and under divisions. One age group that does have plenty of spots available is 14 and under. “We are in real need of additional 14U players or that division is in jeopardy of being cancelled due to low registration” according to Mr. O’Mara.
All divisions are unisex and the league is limiting each team to 8 players.
Parent meeting and Coaches’ meeting are the first week in November with practices beginning the week of November 9.
Parents who are interested in registering their children for basketball or have questions about the program should contact Recreation Supervisor Evan Johnson at 901-867-2717.
