A bit of rain, but the shows went on at The LAMP

Children's program at the LAMP last night

A short burst of heavy rain did not deter the twisting and jumping, shouting and singing to the Patty Shukla children’s program at The LAMP outdoor venue last night (6.22.19).

The children’s musical educational expert from Tequesta, FL brought her high energy show to the Lakeland amphitheater as part of the free summer concert series sponsored by the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department.

The young children were enthralled as they followed Mrs. Shulka’s lead to “wave your hands,” “jump, jump, jump” and “dance to the music.”  And part of the fun was a bubble machine which surrounded the children with hundreds of rainbow-colored bubbles.

Prior to the 5:30 p.m. start of the program, dark clouds opened with heavy rain and hail, lowering the temperature and humidity.  By 5:45 p.m. the clouds had disappeared along with the rain and the fun began.

Mrs. Shukla is watched by educators and families worldwide through her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/pattyshukla.  Mrs. Shukla’s website is https://pattyshuklakidsmusic.com/

Her summer music tour includes Summerville, SC; Asheville, NC; Edmond, OK; Huntington Beach, CA; and Thornton, CO.

Following the children’s program, The Mighty Electric St. Jude Band did not disappoint the small but enthusiastic crowd with songs like Signed, Sealed and Delivered, Then Came You, Soul Man, Give It to Me Baby and Respect.

The volunteer-based band, comprised primarily of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital employees, performs for the benefit of the Hospital.  Link to their website:  https://stjudeband.org/

Similar to other concerts in the free summer series, the family-friendly evening offered inflatables, face-painting and Mr. Balloon Man for children.

Food available for purchase was from Central BBQ and Poplar Tropical, as well as the Snack Bar presented by the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department, which also had Tt-shirts for sale.

Alejandra Arriaga, Lakeland staff engineer, was on hand to explain the recycling program in the City and give away shopping bags, pens and Frisbees.

Presenting sponsor was Sprouts Farmers Market with Caroline Harris staffing a table of Sprouts giveaways.  Ms. Harris is a regional marketing specialist from Birmingham. She also provided $25 gift cards for a drawing.
