The Lakeland Preparatory School boys varsity soccer team is entering the postseason with momentum and confidence after an impressive late-season surge. Following a dominant 5-1 victory over MBA (Memphis Business Academy) last week, the Lions won eight of their last 10 matches going into the postseason, improving their overall record to 10-4-2 as they begin playoff competition.
According to Coach Megan Criner, Lakeland Prep’s recent success has been fueled by strong team chemistry, disciplined play, and standout performances across the field. Senior goalkeeper Tony Trejo has anchored the defense with key saves and veteran leadership, while fellow seniors Luke Baldridge and Alvin Nguyen, along with junior Connor O’Driscoll, have helped establish a consistent and disciplined back line that has limited scoring opportunities for opponents throughout the season.
In the midfield, Allan Paradas, Sebastian Suarez, and Yonderly Villatoro have controlled the pace of play and created scoring opportunities, while Trey Childs and Joel Mokake have brought energy and physicality that have played a major role in the team’s recent success.
Offensively, the Lions have been led by standout performances from Adam Atkinson and junior Eli Coleman. Atkinson has recorded 16 goals and 10 assists this season, while Coleman has delivered an outstanding campaign with 21 goals and nine assists, emerging as both a scoring threat and a vocal leader on the field.
Lakeland Prep continued its postseason run Thursday evening, May 7, capturing the District 14 championship with a victory over Haywood County High School. The Lions are now set to host the regional semifinals on Tuesday, May 12, as they pursue a berth in the state tournament.
In recognition of his exceptional season, Coleman has also been nominated for Commercial Appeal Soccer Player of the Year. Supporters can vote for him at Commercial Appeal Soccer Player of the Year Voting.
