For the Lakeland Lions, success isn’t just measured in wins and losses — it’s measured in growth, leadership, and character. Few players embody those qualities better than junior standout Bryce Dotson.
Over the past three seasons, Bryce has transformed himself into one of the most important pieces of the Lions’ program. His development has been nothing short of remarkable. Through relentless work ethic and commitment to improvement, Bryce has elevated his game to earn Second Team All-District honors as well as a spot on the All-District Tournament Team — achievements that reflect both his talent and his impact in big moments.
But what makes Bryce truly special goes beyond the stat sheet. He is tough. He is selfless. He is a leader.
Bryce is the kind of player every coach wants and every teammate respects. He embraces the “team first” mentality, consistently putting the success of the Lions above individual accolades. Whether it’s knocking down a big shot, locking down an opponent on defense, or making the extra pass to set up a teammate, Bryce impacts the game in every phase.
His growth hasn’t gone unnoticed — especially by someone who knows him best.
His older brother, Phil Dotson Jr, a senior point guard at Rhodes College, is a SAA First Team selection and SAA Tournament MVP. He shared this about Bryce, “I’m super proud of my brother and how much he’s grown on and off the court. He has kept his head down and worked hard for the things he wants for himself. And now he’s starting to see all that hard work pay off. This makes me so happy for him, he deserves it and I can’t wait for what’s next for him.”
That “what’s next” already includes a major milestone — Bryce has received an offer to continue his basketball career at Rhodes College once his high school career is complete. The opportunity to follow in his brother’s footsteps speaks volumes about both his ability and his potential at the next level.
Lions Head Coach Tyler Boyd also praises Bryce not just for his skill set, but for who he is as a person. Coach Boyd highlights Bryce’s elite work ethic, toughness, coachability, and high moral character. On the court, Bryce’s ability to shoot, defend, and create opportunities for others makes him one of the most complete players in the district. Off the court, he represents the program with integrity and class.
And as impressive as his basketball résumé is, Bryce shines just as brightly in the classroom. Maintaining a remarkable 3.969 GPA, he proves that excellence isn’t limited to the hardwood. His discipline and focus academically mirror the same commitment he brings to the gym every day.
As the Lions continue their pursuit of success, Bryce Dotson stands at the center of it all — a leader by example, a competitor with grit, and a student-athlete who represents everything great about Lakeland basketball.
The scary part? He’s still just a junior.
The best is yet to come.
