A packed house filled the auditorium on opening night of the school’s middle school production of The Wizard of Oz on Friday night, and the young cast delivered a performance that exceeded expectations.
From the moment the curtain rose, the audience was transported down the Yellow Brick Road in a delightful and whimsical retelling of the beloved classic. The production showcased not only the students’ acting abilities, but also their dedication, creativity, and countless hours of rehearsal.
Colorful costumes, lively musical numbers, and energetic performances brought the Land of Oz to life. Dorothy’s journey alongside the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion captivated theatergoers of all ages, earning enthusiastic applause throughout the evening and a standing ovation at curtain call.
Parents and community members praised the cast’s hard work and talent. Jeff Rushing, whose daughter played the Wicked Witch, shared his excitement after the show. “Penelope was made for this role,” he said. “She can let it all out and be the baddest witch in Oz!”
The production highlights the strength of the school’s fine arts program and the confidence these young performers bring to the stage. From comedic timing to heartfelt moments, each cast member contributed to an unforgettable night of entertainment.
Audiences still have the opportunity to catch the magic. Performances continue Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 for reserved seating and $10 for general admission.
