The Lakeland Preparatory School Marching Band delivered an outstanding performance at the South Gibson County Hornet Invitational band competition last Saturday, September 21, earning second place overall in a competitive field of 22 bands.
In addition to their strong overall finish, the LPS Marching Band also brought home several awards:
- Fan Favorite Award
- 2nd Place in music, visual, percussion, and guard (large division)
- 3rd Place field commander (large division)

This achievement highlights the remarkable growth of the LPS band program. When the high school opened, the marching band began with just 20 students. Today, the program has expanded to more than 80 members, a testament to the dedication and hard work of its students and directors.
“This is a mark of exceptional growth for our band program,” said Brent Hopper, Band Director at Lakeland Prep. “Their hard work and dedication is certainly paying off, and we are excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”
The LPS Marching Band will showcase their talents again on Saturday, September 27th at 7:45 p.m. at the Championships at Bartlett Station competition, held at Bartlett High School.
