Lakeland Prep Cross Country coach Matthew Grady has recognized senior runner Tatum Madden as the Athlete of the Week following an outstanding performance at the season’s opening meet.
The girls’ team competed in the City Auto Memphis Twilight XC Classic on Saturday night, August 30, at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, an event that drew dozens of schools from across the region.
Madden, competing in her final season opener, set the tone for her team by posting a personal course record, finishing more than two minutes faster than any of her previous attempts at the event. Coach Grady praised her for not only her impressive improvement but also for the character and leadership she displayed throughout the meet.
“Tatum continues to be a strong example for her teammates,” Grady said, adding that her dedication and effort inspire the entire program.
With her performance Saturday, Madden is giving the Lady Lions Cross Country team momentum heading into the rest of the cross country season.
