Workshop on bullying, social conflict this month for LSS parents

The Lakeland School System (LSS) is hosting “Bullying and Social Conflict: A Parent Presentation” this month for parents of both Lakeland schools.

The Jan. 14th workshop will be at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) for parents from both LMPS and LES (Lakeland Elementary School).  It is presented by LSS counselors and ESL (English as a Second Language) Departments.

A Spanish translator will make the presentation bilingual.  The LMPS PTO will provide light snacks.

Kim Pickens, LSS student services and guidance facilitator, said such presentations have been provided within the LSS annually for at least the last 10 years.  “Each school provides bullying information to parents each school year. Most often it is done in a workshop format, or the school counselors set up booths during open house to provide bullying information to parents.  In the past, we have had guest speakers present on bullying and conflict in addition to the counselor’s presentation.”

She said there has been no increase in reported bullying at either Lakeland school.  “These workshops are offered annually to increase awareness about school level bullying prevention programs and school system policies.”
