Garner Lake T-shirt sale benefitting LEF

A bright orange T-shirt for a Garner Lake Facebook (FB) group has become a fundraiser for the Lakeland Education Foundation (LEF) which grants “wishes” to teachers in both Lakeland schools.

Laurie Dahler Vaughn,

Laurie Dahler Vaughn

who lives along the Lake, started the Facebook group which now has 72 members.  “A couple of the members of our Garner Lake Facebook group kicked around the idea of making some T-Shirts for our group,” said Mrs. Vaughn.

“Jon Lewis (Garner Lake resident and LEF treasurer) mentioned a need for some fundraisers for the LEF and I put the two together.”

Mrs. Vaughn said LEF was chosen because there will be new teachers coming into the Lakeland School System (LSS) as the first high school is opened in the City. (Projected opening of August 2022)  “We chose the LEF this year because there is going to be a great need to supply all the new teachers we will have coming for the high school.” She expects the FB group to select a different charity each year.

Mrs. Vaughn contacted Southaven artist Michael Maness to do the art for the T-shirt.  “He joined our group and went through the photos and picked a few to put together the picture for the back of the T-Shirts. It is really colorful and I couldn’t be more pleased with it.”

She said Custom Ink will take orders, collect money, ship the shirts and send a check to LEF when the campaign is finished.

Amy Foster, president of LEF, said, “LEF certainly appreciates the thoughtfulness of community members. Any funds donated will directly benefit our Lakeland teachers and students.”
