Ticket sales for the St. Jude Dream Home in Lakeland, won by a Dyersburg resident Sunday (6.23.19), sold out at a record pace, according to Megan Tancrell, senior regional development director at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC,
She said, “Tickets sold out faster this year than in the last 20 years of the Memphis St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway Campaign’.”
All proceeds from the Memphis St. Jude Dream Home go back to St. Jude, she said.
For the $100 cost of a ticket, Steve Melton of Dyersburg won the $475,000 home at 5046 Adagio Lane in Winstead Farms off U.S. Highway 70 in Lakeland. There were 14,500 tickets sold during the Campaign.
The single-family home was built by Southern Serenity Homes with approximately 3,400 square feet and includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms and an expansive master suite.
Not only does the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway benefit the new homeowner, but also the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital who are battling cancer and other deadly diseases, said Mrs. Tancrell.
For more than 25 years, St. Jude has given away more than 500 houses and raised more than $420 million through the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway campaign, the largest single-event fundraiser for the hospital. It’s because of programs like this that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live.
The construction of a home would not be possible without the generous support of the community and loyal sponsors including: Southern Serenity Homes, Renaissance Realty and national sponsors, Brizo, Shaw Floors and Trane, said Mrs. Tancrell. The City of Lakeland was a sponsor with a $10,000 donation.
“We’re excited for the winner, Steve Melton, and pleased that this program has and always will be a win-win for everyone involved,” said Dr. Susan Aguillard, local campaign chairperson for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. “Fundraisers like this one allow St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue striving to find the answers to save every child with pediatric cancer or other life-threatening diseases through its lifesaving research.”
Those who reserved a ticket to win the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway or attended the open house could enter to win additional prizes. For a complete list of winners and prizes, call 1-800-224-6681 or visit dreamhome.org.
