A fatal crash occurred Sunday evening (June 9, 2019) at the 4000 block of Canada Rd near Pine Point Drive. According to Jeremy Burnett, who lives near the scene, the accident occurred at approximately 5:45pm between a pick up truck and a 4 door sedan. According to reports it was a head on collision with the truck eventually catching fire. Mr. Burnett added, “that’s the third wreck within 50 yards of each other in six months. Something needs to be done.”
Traffic on Canada Rd was closed down for nearly 3 hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleared.
Reports seem to indicate one, if not both drivers, are from Lakeland. According to the SCSO Twitter feed both drivers were transported to local medical facilities, where one was pronounced deceased this morning. The other driver is in non critical condition.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Update: According to the Twitter account for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office the driver who passed away was 19 year old Aidan Little, a resident of Lakeland. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family.
