This past weekend, the Tennessee Stormwater Association (TNSA) marked a milestone with the 2nd Annual Trail Run for Clean Water, an event that drew over 80 participants—doubling last year’s turnout. Held on the trails of International Harvester Park in Lakeland, the race brought together runners of all ages and skill levels to support clean water initiatives across the state. That according to Lakeland City Manager, Michael Walker.
Organizers said the event highlighted the importance of community involvement in protecting Tennessee’s water systems. Proceeds from the race contributed to a $1,000 grant awarded to the Lakeland Education Foundation (LEF). The grant will support stormwater education through the city’s Adopt a Street Program, which promotes environmental stewardship in schools and communities. LEF President Kembree Darakshani and board member Amy Foster accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
A host of local organizations and companies sponsored the event, including Fisher Arnold, MLGW, Buchart-Horn, Gresham-Smith, HDR, The City of Germantown, Cannon & Cannon, Barge Design Solutions, Ritter Communications, Pickering Engineering, The City of Arlington, Renaissance Group, UM CAESAR, State Farm – William Ashworth, TNSA, and The City of Lakeland.
As the Trail Run continues to grow, it serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that community-driven efforts can have in fostering a cleaner future for Lakeland.
