What is the most pressing issue facing the 111th Tennessee General Assembly?
As mandated in the Tennessee constitution, balancing the budget is a requirement and considered to be the foundation of our fiscal practice.    As former Chairman of the Commerce Committee in the House of Representatives and member of the Finance Ways and Means Committee I was formally involved in the budget process.

How would you vote on HB0042 which aims to reduce the punishment for illegally possessing a firearm?
Opposed.

What is your view on using public school funds for home schooling or private schools as proposed by HB0018?
I believe it is worth exploring for low income student households zoned in poorly performing schools.

Should felons be given the opportunity to restore their voting rights in the state of Tennessee?
It depends on the severity and circumstance of the crime.  Article 4 of the Tennessee Constitution provides that the Tennessee Legislature may deny the right to vote to persons convicted of “infamous” crimes.  In that case, you lose your freedom and right to vote.

Steve McManus – Biography

Republican Steve McManus has been in the financial service industry as an investment advisor in Memphis for 36 years and is a former Finance Chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party.

During the 10 years Steve served in the House of Representatives, he held various leadership roles including Chairman of the Commerce Committee and Chairman of the Insurance and Banking Committee.

Steve and his wife, Christal, live in Collierville and are parents of sons John and Michael.
