LSS Announces 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year Recipients

The Lakeland School System has announced Teacher of the Year Awards for Lakeland Elementary and Lakeland Preparatory Schools.  This year’s awards went to Mrs. Sarah Donaire, ESL teacher at LES, and Mrs. Stacey Carmichael, 6th grade Social Studies teacher at LPS.

Mrs. Donaire is in her 6th year of teaching, with 4 years of 3rd grade and 1.5 years in ESL (English as a second Language).  She graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelors of Science in Education (K-6 general education, K-12 modified SPED licensure) and is certified in K-12 ESL. She has been married to Delmer Donaire for 3 years.  They travel to the Honduras (his home country) in the summers where she teaches English. Mrs. Donaire lives her life based on this quote by Mahatma Gandhi, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”  She told Lakeland Currents, “I’m so incredibly honored to be named teacher of the year at LES. I have wonderful co-workers, administration, and students who keep me inspired.”

Mrs. Carmichael is in her 15th year of teaching, with the last 3 being at LPS.  She has an Associates & Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Master’s Degree in Education.  She also writes for Lifeway as an independent contractor and recently became a realtor with Groome & Co. Prior to teaching, she was a Sales Analyst at Smith & Nephew.  She has been married to Dr. Brian Carmichael for 28 years. They have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.  Mrs. Carmichael told Lakeland Currents, “My life quote is “In all situations to remain content.” (Philippians 4:11) and “Let your light shine!” I am so honored to be chosen as Teacher of the Year from my peers. It was completely unexpected…I’m blessed to work with a supportive administration and great co-workers and to teach an amazing group of students.”
