Community Advisory Board Holds First Meeting of 2024

The Lakeland Community Advisory Board convened for its first meeting of the year on February 13, 2024, with six out of nine members in attendance. This board gathers bi-monthly on the 2nd Tuesday, alternating with the Parks and Recreation/Natural Resources Board (PRB).

One of the key agenda items for the February meeting was sponsored by Mayor Josh Roman, who proposed utilizing the $10,000 in unspent funds from the Keep Lakeland Beautiful line item to enhance the city as the board sees fit. Mayor Roman suggested potential uses such as neighborhood cleanups, grant incentives, and welcome signage along 385. This topic will be further deliberated throughout the year as the board develops specific plans.

Additionally, an item was added to the agenda from the floor regarding the annual Lakeland Yard Sale and its alignment with the yard sale day and the community clean-up days hosted by the Lakeland Public Works department. The aim is to facilitate the disposal of unsold yard sale items at the clean-up day, reducing pressure on the bulk waste team and preventing potential schedule delays. Coordination efforts for this initiative will be finalized in the next meeting.
