Wesley Wright, Board of Commissioners (BOC) liaison to the BOA/SBOA, said Patrick Kitchens was voted as chair with Zachary Coleman elected secretary.  Ryan McDaniel has stepped down from the Board because he is moving from Lakeland.  “His leadership will be missed,” said Commissioner Wright.

Item one on the agenda for new business was a requested variance from Article III, Section 2, to permit a “Neighborhood Office” use (Veterinary Clinic) to be located on the ground floor of the building in a C-2 Commercial District (currently permitted in upper stories only). Ralph Falls with Carolina Land Company was at the meeting.

During discussion Commissioner Wright stated the purpose of the location would be more appropriate for retail or restaurant use considering it being prime real estate on a major corridor.

He said there was no objection to the company itself and should a master plan be provided for that whole space it would lend some clarity to the various uses and avoid the preponderance of hodgepodge development. Then that business could fit into that area quite nicely.

Commissioner Wright said some other discussion looked at products it might sell in the 4,000 square- foot space. The vote was two in favor, one against. Because of only three present the variance was not allowed.

Item two was Delta Blues Winery (DBW), 6585 Stewart Road.  The Winery requested a conditional use permit to allow a brewery as an incidental use to a winery. The vote was unanimously in favor. Attending from DBW were Scott Patterson, Ed Stevens and Jerry Michie.
