The Lakeland Board of Education met for a special called meeting today, Friday, September 24th.  Item one on the agenda was ‘Discussion/Action on Approval of Director of Assessment, Accountability & Data Job Description’.

In a statement released by the Lakeland School System this afternoon, it was announced that current and founding principal of Lakeland Preparatory School, Matt Adler, will be assuming the role of that job, effective immediately.  Assistant Principal Corrie Martin will assume the role of Principal for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, with Tami Boeve taking over as interim Assistant Principal in her place.  Ms. Boeve currently serves as middle school Instructional Supervisor at LPS.

Kevin Floyd, Chairman of the Lakeland School Board, told Lakeland Currents the director level position that Mr. Adler will be assuming is a full time position already in other school districts. “Arlington and Bartlett already have full time positions like this,” adding, “Mr. Adler will do a great job in this role as he identifies strengths and needs of our students.”

Up until now, the Lakeland School System has been sharing this work across several different employees.

Mr. Adler said, “I’m honored to be chosen for this new position to help our schools continue to achieve academic excellence.”

Mr. Adler has led the school since it’s beginning five years ago and demonstrated successful leadership and guidance in all areas – academic, athletic and fine arts.  His new role will utilize data analysis skills in the schools as well as the school district as a whole.

Mrs. Martin has also been with the school for five years.  Her knowledge of the school and leadership experience lends itself well to the successful transition between leaders and the opening of the high school with ninth graders for the 2022-23 school year.

Mrs. Martin said, “I’m grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with the students and our community in this new constructive way. Our faculty and staff are incredibly talented, so in this role, my goal is to continue to support them as they continue to make the teaching and learning experience the best it can be.  The new administration is ready to hit the ground running as we prepare to open our high school next year.”
