In a five-vehicle accident Feb. 13th on I-40, two drivers have been charged, according to Sgt. Chris Richardson, special programs/public information officer for the Memphis District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
“Both drivers, the one in the first wreck and the ambulance driver, were charged with violation of the Due Care Law,” said Sgt. Richardson.
The accident involving two separate incidents resulted in a fatality after a passenger suffered a heart attack after being transported to Regional One Hospital. It was on I-40 at mile marker 22.4 near Lakeland.
The first accident occurred when one tractor trailer impacted the rear of a second tractor trailer. In a second accident following the tractor trailer crash, a Shelby County Fire Department (SCFC) ambulance crashed into a THP SUV and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) SUV.
