Although parents and staff saw a fire truck and heard a siren, there was not an emergency at LES (Lakeland Elementary School) this morning (1.11.17).

Brent W. Perkins, PIO/GIS for the Shelby County Fire Department, told Lakeland Currents a smoke detector gave a bad reading. There was no emergency at the school.

From the Lakeland School System (LSS) regarding possible frozen weather:

We are aware of forecasts of inclement weather overnight on Thursday evening/Friday morning and are monitoring the situation closely. Any announcements about school closures will be posted to the LSS Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lakelandk12 and the LSS webpage www.lakelandk12.org , shared through the mass notification system and with local media.
