The semi-annual community cleanup for Lakeland has been moved to Fireworks City, 3509 Canada Road at I-40.
The fall event will be from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 and is only open to residents of Lakeland with ID required, like a driver’s license or current utility bill. Typically the City offers a clean up day in the fall and again in the spring.
There is a weight/size limit, according to Rhonda Fink, community services representative for Lakeland. “Items must be able to be unloaded by two men. The City reserves the right to refuse any item or items. Encourage your neighbors to participate! If you have any questions please call City Hall at 867-5409.”
The following items will be accepted:
- Bulky trash
- E-Waste (TVs, monitors, computers, printers, cell phones, cell batteries, car batteries)
- White goods (washers, dryers, small appliances, no refrigerators)
- Tires (limit 4, no rims)
- Scrap metals
- Construction debris (residential only, please bend nails down)
- Yard waste.
Republic Services and Cyber Yard will provide dumpsters and receptacles for your discards to be recycled and properly disposed.
“We will NOT accept oils, paint, anti-freeze, pesticides, herbicides, chemicals or railroad ties,” said Mrs. Fink. “These items can be taken to the Memphis and Shelby County Hazardous Waste Facility at Shelby Farms. Call 222-7729.”
Before disposing any items in the trash, please consider donating useable items to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Disabled Veterans or other charitable organizations, suggested Mrs. Fink.
