Lakeland Happenings This Week


There is a public meeting tomorrow (1.23.18) for the Clear Creek Sanitary Sewer Interceptor Project.

It will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the IH Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Road.

According to Emily Harrell, PE CPESC, city engineer, the project will provide relief to the existing Clear Creek interceptor which is nearing capacity.  It will also provide service to residences on the north end of Chambers Chapel Road.  At ultimate build-out, the new interceptor will provide a connection for properties in east Lakeland to U. S. Highway 64.

The project is currently in the design phase with construction to begin in 2020, said Mrs. Harrell.

The annual Membership Awards Luncheon for the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday (1.24.18) at Colonial Country Club in Cordova.  Cost is $10 for members, $15 for non-members.  Link to information and registration: http://members.mylakelandchamber.org/events/Membership-Awards-Luncheon-6/details .

On the same day (1.24.18) the Lakeland Elementary School (LES) PTA will sponsor a Cop Stop for first responders from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LES cafeteria.  Invited to the annual event are the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Shelby County Fire Department.

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) meets at 6 p.m. Thursday (1.25.18) at City Hall.

On the agenda is an update on The Lake District, election of officers and discussion on amending EDC by-laws.
