The Shelby County Commission unanimously approved a $25,000 grant today (3.8.17) for the City of Lakeland to construct two new Gateway signs. The signs will have the same design theme as the recently constructed gateway signs located along Highway 64 at Canada Road and Fletcher Trace Parkway.

The new signs will be constructed along Highway 70, one at the City’s eastern boundary and the other at the western boundary.

Jim Atkinson, Lakeland City Manager, said, “Thanks to County Commissioner David Reaves for his support and hard work on behalf of the City of Lakeland!”  Mr. Atkinson said the estimated cost for each of the gateway signs will total $25,000 and the grant requires no matching funds from Lakeland.

He expects the bid process will not take long since the City already has plans on the signs.  “Depending on the quality of the bids,” he said, “I expect to have a contract to the BOC in the next 30 – 60 days.”

Mr. Atkinson, along with Lakeland commissioners Josh Roman and Matt Wright, appeared at the County Commission in support of the grant request.
